"Books in Camps for Polish Prisoners of War in the Third Reich and the Occupied Countries (1939–1945)"

The exhibition endeavours to present an overview of the history of books in prison camps operated by the Wehrmacht. It explains what made book circulation possible in the camps, how it was organized by the prisoners, how censorship was bypassed, what kinds of books were read and how many, and what other activities accompanied these efforts. Authentic memorabilia (books, library regulations, library book cards and reader cards, notices, signboards, photographs and written items) help visitors comprehend the scale of the phenomenon and above all the unique importance of the written word for those in isolation.
