The exhibition of works from the collection of Piotr Dąbrowski Poster Gallery will be presented between November 24 and December 30, 2012 in the Granaries on the Brda River, 7-11 Grodzka Street. The exhibition accompanies Plus Camerimage - the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography.
In one of the interviews given by Pągowski he admitted that he realized what he wants to do in life when he visited the poster studio of Waldemar Świerzy. Mentioning advantages of his work, he focused attention on freedom in selection of techniques in making posters. He is also attracted by universal availability of this form of art. “An artist will make a painting and then sits poor for months in his studio and waits until someone will buy it. In my case – two weeks and the whole street or even whole Poland is lined with posters” – explains Pągowski.
Andrzej Pągowski was born in Warsaw in 1953. In 1973–1978, he studied in the State University of Fine Arts in Poznań. In 1978, he graduated with honors in the poster studio of Prof. Waldemar Świerzy. He made more than 1,000 printed posters. In addition, he is involved in book and press illustrations, music album covers, stage design and television scenery, movie scripts and video clips. Since 1986, he had worked as artistic and graphic director in many magazines; his longest assignment was in the Polish edition of the monthly “Playboy” in 1992–1998. In 1989, he started working in advertising, continuing his individual work as a graphic artist. For several years he has been involved in canvas print. He creates custom-made portraits. He presented his works at solo and group exhibitions across the world. Pągowski also won several dozen awards in Poland and abroad. His works are in many private and national collections, including the Poster Museum in Wilanów, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris. He works as creative director and is the owner of the Kreacja Pro Company in Warsaw.
