30th anniversary of the school ship “Dar Młodzieży”

On July 4, 1982, over thirty years ago, the “Dar Młodzieży” ship owned by the Gdynia Maritime University was launched, becoming Poland’s third great school sail ship. In this time, the frigate made a number of voyages visiting all continents, including cruises to Japan (1983) on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Osaka Castle,  North America (1984) to celebrate the 450th anniversary  of the discovery of waterway on the St. Lawrence River and (1992) on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of America “Columbus 95.” In 1987/88, “Dar Młodzieży” made its longest trip to Australia, sailing across three oceans and around three capes, including the famous Cape Horn.

The exhibition is a reminder of the 30-year history of the sail ship, including its construction and fundraising, in which the city of Bydgoszcz and region had their special accomplishments. Here, the first payment was made in Poland on the account of the ship. In addition, embroiderers from Tuchola donated the handmade flag for the ship, which is also presented at the exhibition.
