Leon Wyczółkowski – Impressions from Pomerania

On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Leon Wyczółkowski and the 75th anniversary of the donation by his widow, Franciszka Wyczółkowska, a collection of his works (a total of 942 items) as well as personal souvenirs, furnishings and equipment of his studio, which originated in the Museum a monographic collection dedicated to the artist and his work, the Bydgoszcz City Council announced 2012 the Year of Leon Wyczółkowski. Therefore, institutions and entities operating in the field of culture and education joined the solemn celebrations of this Year by organization of exhibitions, scientific sessions and lectures dedicated to the life and activity of the artist. The Leon Wyczółkowski Regional Museum in Bydgoszcz plays a special role in these undertakings. Having the residents of the region in mind, we prepared a traveling exhibition "Leon Wyczółkowski – Impressions from Pomerania," which we intend to present thanks to kindliness of the friendly local museums. The exhibition constitutes an important contribution to development of knowledge on art, popularizing artistic work of Leon Wyczółkowski. The collected and presented group of watercolors, drawings and graphic artworks provides a unique opportunity – not only to residents of Bydgoszcz but also Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship - for getting acquainted with the technique of lithographic workshop and individual style of the artist. The works show architectural motifs and landscapes, which are well known to residents of our region.

The exhibition includes:

•    30 original, framed works of the artist

•    6 banners with graphic motif, featuring text and a gallery of photographs from the artist’s album (banner 250 cm x 80 cm)
