Description:

On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Leon Wyczółkowski and the 75th anniversary of the donation by his widow, Franciszka Wyczółkowska, a collection of his works (a total of 942 items) as well as personal souvenirs, furnishings and equipment of his studio, which originated in the Museum a monographic collection dedicated to the artist and his work, the Bydgoszcz City Council announced 2012 the Year of Leon Wyczółkowski.

The exhibition presents some of the most important artists who formed the Association at its origins between 1911 and 1939. We can see works of such a painters like: Tytus Czyżewski, Zbigniew Pronaszko, Teodor Axentowicz, Jacek Malczewski, Wojciech Weiss,  Jerzy Rupniewski, Karol Mondral, Francisek i Teodor Gajewski and Marian Turwid.

Born in Nowogródek, Lipno County, Walery was the son of Konstanty, a landowner and Amelia nee Kamiński. After the death of her husband, Walery’s mother, focusing on education of her children, moved to Toruń. Here, Walery attended the local grammar school, from which he did not graduate due to his bad health (he was fighting heart disease until his death).
