We invite to see the "Table with memory" by Agnieszka Lasota, which is on display in Modern Art Gallery on ul. Mennica 8.
The Table is part of the bigger work "Furniture wwith Memory", which is compilation od design and new media. "My furniture are vehicles of time, with the aid of technology they allow a journey into the past. Elements of old furniture found at random I treat as museum artifacts — I place them carefully into a glass showcase. Instead of restoring I secure them in their present state. I show them as they are now, bringing back to life their original function in a new form. Sometimes, with electric polarization, I change the glass into a frosted one, hiding contents. I use the slide of the piece in its best time. Then the projection of the picture from the past becomes sharp and readable. The furniture shines again in old glory" - says artist about her project.
The project was awarded during The DMY Berlin Festival 2008 and mentioned by italian weekly magazine L'espresso as one of the most interesting objects of Milan Furniture Fair 2009.
Agnieszka graduated from the Interior Design Faculty of Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts (1996) and did post-graduate studies at Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan (2006). Experience in working for corporations (she was creative director at Fashion TV Poland) is the starting point for her subsequent works. Now, using a language bordering on design and the new media she gives a multi-level diagnosis of the contemporary consumer society. The central, almost obsessively recurring theme of her work is the object regarded as a material trace of artificially generated human needs. Agnieszka has attended numerous exhibitions, fairs and design festivals including ones in Warsaw, Łodz, Krakow, Berlin, Milan, London, Brussels. She lives in Warsaw (Poland).
