A research and exhibition project THE CITY – THE PEOPLE – THE MUSEUM

16.03.2017

A research and exhibition project THE CITY – THE PEOPLE – THE MUSEUM by the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Branch of the Society of Polish Museologists and museums from the Kuyavian and Pomeranian Voivodship.

The project consists of arranging exhibitions (as well as associated events and publications) in museums in the Kuyavian and Pomeranian Voivodship, which would tell a tale of the city through the people who had a significant impact (political, artistic, social, scientific, etc.) on its development. It is precisely the stories of the city’s inhabitants that will form the basis for the presentation of the city’s history. Each museum participating in the project will present the city in which it operates and whose history it works to preserve in any way – in terms of both content and form – that it finds most suitable, considering its profile, amassed collections, as well as the history of the given city and its people. The organisers are planning to hold all the exhibitions (both internally – displaying the collections, and externally – displaying posters) at the same time (spring/summer 2017) and following the same, consistent layout. The one element linking the museums, as well as the cities, is the Vistula river and its tributaries; the year 2017 being hailed as the Year of the Vistula, many museums decided to mount exhibitions about the river.

Eighteen museums will stage almost twenty exhibitions, which will make up a cultural trail of Kuyavian and Pomeranian museums creating a new tourism supply in our region.

The initiative, undertaken partly to celebrate the Year of the Vistula 2017, will also aim to promote Vistula-related issues.
